Description:

“Why Mosquitoes Buzz in People’s Ears” is a traditional folktale from Africa about the consequences of lying to other people and how they affect others. Verna Aardema’s playful narrative and Leo and Diane Dillon’s colorful and vibrant illustrations make this book an instant treat for children and adults alike. The artwork was made using watercolor airbrush, pastels, and India ink. The cutout shapes were made by using friskets and vellum cut shapes at different angles. The book won a Caldecott Medal in 1976 for the Dillons.

Age Group: 5-8
