In this wonderful rare lithograph, Mumtaz Durdu has masterfully penned the verses of Ayat al-Kursi. The verses translate to:
God! There is no god but He, The Living, The Eternal. Neither slumber takes Him nor sleep. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens, and whatever is in and on the earth. Who will intercede with Him but with His permission? He knows what is in front of them, and what is behind them. And they will not comprehend anything of His knowledge, but what He willed. His Seat encompassed the heavens and the earth, and He is not hampered by their safe keeping. And He is The Lofty, The Sublime.
A lithograph is a type of non-digital printing, developed in the 1700s, where the image from a plate is transferred to a rubber blanket and then to the printing surface. The end result is an extremely high-quality image.
Mumtaz Durdu was born in Tirebolu in 1958. He finished primary and middle school education in Zonguldak. He holds a university education from Ankara. From his high schoolyears, Mumtaz Durdu was intrigued by the science of Islamic calligraphy, and once in Ankara, he sought out ways to study this sacred art. He learned Sikh and thuluth scripts from Hasan Çelebi, and in 1995 obtained his professional license from the master. Durdus' work has participated in numerous international group exhibitions in Turkey and abroad. He currently resides in Istanbul's Kocamustafapasa district.
