Raised on three feet, the exterior of this wonderfully decorated censer consists of two lobed cartouches cast in relief. The phrases in the cartouches collectively contain the Arabic inscriptions 'There is no God but God, and Mohammad is the messenger of God'; lā ʾilāha ʾilla -llāhu, muḥammadan rasūlu -llāhi. The calligraphy of the Shahada is in beautiful Chinese script.
The craftsmanship technique used to make this incense burner is through sand casting that dates back to 1000 B.C.
