Description of 6mm Coquilla Nut (Kuk) Tasbih
The Attalea tree is considered to be sacred in many religions, including Islam. According to Muslim oral traditions, the Ark of Prophet Nuh was made from its trunk, although this has neither been verified nor denied in written sources.
When branches of this palm are cut, it can take over 100 years for them to grow back to their original state. However, Muslims have used the coquilla nut, which this blessed palm produces, to make prayer beads while leaving the mother tree unharmed. The healing properties of the coquilla nut include that of cleansing which is one of the reasons why Ottoman medical doctors always had kuk in hand.
Keeping up with the tradition of handcrafting the kuk masbaha, Rumi's Garden commissioned the making of these beads to a fifth generation tasbih guild that operates in close proximity to the Mosque of Sayidna Al-Hussain, the grandson of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, in Cairo. The white and brown tassels were woven by West African Azhari students and each individual piece is unique and extremely durable.
Every coquille nut sibha is handcrafted using the highest quality natural materials so some minor variations in bead size, color, markings and shape is expected and reflects the individual and organic beauty of each prayer bead set.
