Coquilla nut, belonging to the family of trees called Arecacae, resembles a coconut but is small in size and is found in areas with a tropical climate. It is an extremely hard and durable nut that requires special instruments to mold it into a particular shape. Once shaped and polished, its color is a rich hazel-brown.
There are two main physical characteristics that kuk tasbihs are known for; Firstly, with use over time, the hazel-brown color darkens and it increases in beauty and secondly, when used, as the beads fall on top of one another, they make a clicking sound that for many increases their concentration in prayer and meditation.
Kuk prayer beads have become extremely high in demand for their healing and spiritual properties. According to Muslim oral traditions ranging from Singapore to Egypt, Kuk is believed to have protective powers from the seen and unseen worlds; the material acts as an amulet of protection.
Rumi’s Garden proudly brings you this medium sized, 100 bead coquilla nut tasbih in cooperation with a fifth generation Islamic rosary guild based in the heart of Cairo in Egypt. The tassels were commissioned to West African Azhari students.
