Description of 7 x 8 mm Coquilla Nut (kuk, kaukah, cuk, كوك) Tasbih
Coquilla nut, which translates to ‘little coconut’ in Spanish, comes from the Arecacae (Palmae) family and is most often found in the tropics. The nut itself is exceptionally hard and is a richly streaked hazel-brown color.
Due to its durability, soft texture and spiritual properties, it has become an extremely highly demanded material for tasbihs. According to Muslim oral traditions from different parts of the Islamic world, Kuk tasbihs have protective properties from the seen and unseen worlds as well as healing qualities for a variety of ailments including body aches and pains.
Symbolically, the color of Kuk represents earth and evokes a sense of strength, groundedness, resilience and safety. It also represents spiritual detachment from the world and attachment to God.
It is with immense pleasure that Rumi’s Garden brings you an intricate tasbih with a polyhedral ellipsoid shaped bead. We have been blessed to work with a 5th generation tasbih guild that can produce such complex workmanship using traditional methods. The guild is located beside the blessed mosque of Sayidna Husayn and the tassels were commissioned to West African students of Al-Azhar University.
