Description of Eri-Silk and Wool Stole from Gujarat, India
This intricately designed multicolored stole is approximately 40 cm x 200 cm in size. It was created using traditional methods of hand-looming from hand-spun, ethically sourced wool and eri-silk.
Eri-silk, also known as endi or errandi in India, is a rather coarse fabric that is fine and dense. It is extremely strong and durable and makes a fantastic blend when combined with wool. Due to the thermal fabric properties of eri-silk, the stole keeps one cool in the summer and warm in the winter. One of the most beautiful qualities of eri-silk is that it has come to be known as the fabric of peace (Ahminsa silk) since it is processed without killing the silkworm.
The extra weft design of this stole is accomplished when weft yarn is weaved into a ground cloth and a secondary weft is inserted at intervals to create the decorative the diamonds and crosses pattern on the surface of the textile. Since this stole is completely handwoven, there may be slight variations in its appearance which makes it a completely unique piece.
Through our partnership with ethical producers in east India, Rumi's Garden brings you this beautiful one of a kind stole. The aim of the organization in India is to provide livelihood opportunities for weavers in small villages around the Gujarat region.
Maintaining Your Stole
To maintain the stole, hand-wash it with a small amount of mild wool/ silk soap or delicate non-biological wool detergent. Do not dry cleaning. Do not tumble dry. The wool softens after a wash and continues to do so with time.
