Prophet Muhammad Footprint Replica | Abu Ayyub al-Ansari Mosque; Istanbul

Blessed Footprint replica of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in the Abu Ayyub al-Ansari Mosque; Istanbul

This rare relic replica consists of the blessed footprint of Prophet Muhammad , placed in a beautifully handcrafted box with rose petals and incense resin.

The bronze Qadam Mubarak is an authentic replica of an existing footprint of the Prophet Muhammed ﷺ. The original print is located in the tomb of Abu Ayyub al-Ansari, who is a Companion and the standard-bearer of our Beloved Prophet ﷺ. The Footprint has an extremely strong 'sanad' (chain of authorization).

Abu Ayyub al-Ansari (أبو أيوب الأنصاري, Ebu Eyyûb el-Ensarî) was one of the closest companions to Prophet Muhammed who hailed from a well-known family in Medina. Since he fed the Prophet his first dinner in Medina, until his passing at the walls of Constantinople where he was laid to rest at around 672,  he served our Prophet with love and devotion. Abu Ayyub al-Ansari was the companion responsible for purchasing the land of Al-Masjid an-Nabawi which belonged to two young orphans, Sahal and Suhayl. Thus he became the endower of The Prophetic Mosque on behalf of Prophet Muhammad.

When Mehmet the Conqueror entered Constantinople in 1453, the legendary tomb was discovered. In 1458 a mosque and tomb were built on the spot of Abu Ayyub al-Ansari’s burial site. In the early nineteenth century, Sultan Mahmud II took a print of the foot, among other Prophetic relics from the treasury of the Topkapi Palace, and placed them in this tomb to honor the dear companion of the Prophet. The suburb of Eyüp grew up around it outside the Byzantine walls. Placing the footprint in the tomb seems to have increased its sanctity until it became so holy that the enthronement ceremony of the Ottoman sultans, “The Girding of the Sword”, was performed in this tomb. The Eyüp Sultan Mosque, as it is known in Turkey, is one of the most important holy sites in the country, and indeed, the Islamic world.

The mold of the footprint was retrieved professionally by an associate of Rumi’s Garden and was sent to craftsmen who specifically make casts for museums. Great care was taken to make sure that all details are conserved. The footprint is made of resin and pure bronze. It is extremely durable and waterproof. It should last hundreds of years with God’s Grace. The dimension of the footprint is 31 x 13 x 3 cm.
