Description of Silk and Wool Stole Handloomed in Himachal Pradesh, India
The Himalayas of India are famous for handwoven shawls and stoles and the techniques used to make them have passed down over generations. Spinning, weaving and dyeing of textiles have served as a livelihood for many artisans in the region.
This charming stole measures approximately 60 cm x 200 cm and is made from a combination of wool and silk. The threads used to make this stole were twisted and spun using a wooden spindle that is common in many households in Himachal Pradesh. The stole was handloomed and has been left undyed, bringing out its beautiful and natural cream and beige colors.
It is with immense pleasure that Rumi's Garden, in coordination with a cooperative located in Northern India, brings you this wonderful stole. The cooperative is a registered non-profit organization that works towards the development and sustainability of handloomed textiles. Since this stole is handmade, slight variations in the appearance may appear which add to its unique beauty.
Maintaining Your Stole
To maintain the stole, hand-wash it with a small amount of mild wool/ silk soap or delicate non-biological wool detergent. Do not dry cleaning. Do not tumble dry. The wool softens after a wash and continues to do so with time.
