Description of Wool Stole Hand-loomed in Kullu, India
'From the loom and what it makes, one is led on to the question of good workmanship. For a work to be well made, it must be 'all that it should be and nothing else besides'; it will then be uttering the Truth and...if Wisdom and Method have both gone into the making of it, it will achieve Unity, thus becoming a means of Grace.'
Handloomed stoles and shawls have long been an indispensable part of the lifestyle of the Kullvi people of the Himalayas. Passed from generation to generation, the craft of handloom weaving takes years to master in order to produce the beautiful designs of the Kullu shawl.
For this stole that measures 70 x 200 cm, the weavers have used natural wool local to Himachal Pradesh that was handspun and then handloomed. Traditional geometric design motifs have been used to decorate the elaborate and colorful border which contains shades of green, blue, grey, orange and cream. The base color of the stole is black.
Rumi's Garden is proud to bring you this unique, handmade stole which was created through a partnership with a weaver's cooperative located in the north of India. The cooperative, which was established in 1944, won awards for its outstanding handloomed products.
Maintaining Your Stole
To maintain the stole, hand-wash it with a small amount of mild wool/ silk soap or delicate non-biological wool detergent. Do not dry cleaning. Do not tumble dry. The wool softens after a wash and continues to do so with time.
