Description of Wool Stole from Kullu, India
'At every point in the cosmic web there is a warp and a woof that intersect one another, and this is indicated by the traditional symbolism of weaving, according to which the threads of the warp, which hang vertically on the primitive loom, represent the permanent essences of things...while the woof, which binds horizontally the threads of the warp, and at the same time covers them with its alternating waves, corresponds to the substantial or “material” continuity of the world.'
Himachal Pradesh, a paradise of snowy mountains, with plentiful rainfall and lush forests, has long been famous for its handloomed textiles which is part of their cultural heritage. The Kullu stoles are amongst the most well known of these textiles and local wool is often used as a raw material for weaving.
This Kullvi stole, handloomed from Himachal wool that is handspun on a spindle, is approximately 70 cm in length and 200 cm in width. Its main color is that of the undyed natural wool which is an elegant grey-beige. Its simple border contains six black parallel lines.
It is immense delight that Rumi's Garden has collaborated with a cooperation, based in Northern India that was founded in 1943, to bring to you this wonderful stole. The cooperation has won a National Award of Excellence for its high quality handloomed products.
Maintaining Your Stole
To maintain the stole, hand-wash it with a small amount of mild wool/ silk soap or delicate non-biological wool detergent. Do not dry cleaning. Do not tumble dry. The wool softens after a wash and continues to do so with time.
