Description of 10 x 7 mm Slightly Scented Olive Wood & Ebony Inlay Tasbih
By the fig and the olive And Mount Sinai And this safe land Verily We created man in the fairest uprightness
(Quran, 95: 1-4)
Since time immemorial, the sacred olive tree has been a source of healing and a symbol for harmony. Since the Bronze Age, in the Levant, the olive tree has been documented in written tablets while olive pits and wood fragments have been found in ancient tombs. The Holy Quran refers to the olive on 6 occasions emphasizing its sacredness or usefulness. Within Islamic medicine, olive oil is used to treat many different ailments including cancers; whether it be breast, ovarian or colorectal.
For tasbih makers, olive wood has long been used because it is malleable which allows for intricate designs. Furthermore, It is soft to the touch and is resistant to decay once crafted.
Combined with the beautiful hard wood of ebony, Rumi's Garden has commissioned a 5th generation Egyptian guild to carve this beautiful prayer bead. The guild is based in the area of the Mosque of Sayidna Hussain in the heart of Islamic Cairo.
The sibha has been created from the highest quality natural material. Minor variations may be found within the workmanship since it is handmade. This reflects the uniqueness and organic charm of the tasbih.
