Description of 9 x 5 mm Scented Agarwood(aloeswood, Ud, عود) Tasbih
And the earth He laid [out] for the creatures. Therein is fruit and palm trees having sheaths [of dates] And grain having husks and scented plants.
(Quran, 55: 10-12)
In the chapter of The Compassionate, the sacred text of the Holy Quran makes mention of fragrant plants. It is placed amongst a list of gifts so fundamental to life. Indeed, there is a spiritual reverence for scented plants, and agarwood has a special status since it is mentioned particularly in hadith literature for its healing properties.
According to traditional sources on Islamic medicine, agarwood can be used to treat emotional and psychological knots that create anxiety and depression. Its properties also allow one to be induced into a meditative state of concentration in prayer and dhikr.
Within the ritual of fumigating the Haram, the Holy Ka'aba is opened twice a year and the highest quality of agarwood is used in a cleansing ritual. Furthermore, a mixture of oils, including agarwood is used to clean the walls with a cloth.
For its scent, texture and color, agarwood has long been a valued material in the making of prayer beads. It is therefore with great pleasure that Rumi's Garden brings to you this oud tasbih through a partnership with a fifth generation masbaha workshop based in the Imam Husayn area of old Cairo, Egypt. The tasbih is made from the highest quality materials and the tassels were commissioned to West African Azhari students. Since the tasbih is handmade, minor inconsistencies may exist in the prayer bead giving it its unique character.
